Gangasagar Mela 2023: from Bathing rituals to high-tech security and transport arrangements | Get details

The annual Gangasagar Fair, scheduled to take place from January 12, will see preparations kick off on January 8 and extend until January 17. In a high-level meeting at Nabanna on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed top officials to monitor and ensure the fair's smooth conduct.

Top decisions taken:

  • Virtual Access:

- All events live-streamed.

  • Insurance:

- 5 lakh coverage for devotees and media.

  • Security Measures:

- 1150 CCTV cameras.
- 30 bells for security.
- 50 fire engines.
- Coast Guard deployment.

  • Transport:

- 2250 govt. buses.
- 250 non-govt. buses.
- Extra 200 buses from Kuchberia to Sagar.
- 10 tourist buses.
- 32 vessels.
- 100 launches.
- 21 jetties.

  • Facilities:

- Special camp in Sealdah Howrah.
- 66 special trains (Jan 13 to 17).
- Daily dredging.
- Helicopter facility.

  • Volunteers and Sanitation:

- 6500 volunteers.
- 10k toilets.
- 7k washrooms.
- 332 organizations camp.

  • Technology:

- 6 WiFi features.
- QR code for awareness.

  • Security and Deployment:

- 10k police personnel.
- Language miking (8 languages).

  • Water Amenities:

- 7 lakh water sachets.
- Tap facility.
